Love on a Leash
Do you have a pet that you enjoy sharing with other people?
Therapy pets don’t need to be a specific breed or type. What is
important is that your pet’s temperament is friendly, your pet is
healthy, and it is well trained.
A therapy pet must be able to calmly interact with the elderly, the
ill, and children. They must also be able to adjust to being in unusual
buildings, with new people, other pets, and around objects such as walkers
and wheelchairs.
As a volunteer with Love on a Leash, A Touch of Love chapter you and your
pet will be certified to visit schools, libraries, and care facilities
to help children. Volunteers also visit residents in assisted living homes
and Alzheimer facilities. We also visit patients in hospitals and Hospice
care facilities.
Love on a Leash, A Touch of Love chapter exists to ensure that volunteers
and their pets have what it takes to perform this volunteer work. Once
certified, members and their pets receive ID cards, tags, and vests for
their pet to wear while working. Certified therapy teams also receive
the benefit of additional insurance coverage when doing therapy visits.
